Ecological Surfwax: Beeswax-Based Wax
During our travels around the world, we seek to meet ocean lovers committed to its preservation. In our journey in New Zealand, the Wellington Wax project caught our attention. An ecological initiative offering beeswax-based surf wax.
The Challenges Posed by Traditional surfwaxes
Despite the deep affection many enthusiasts hold for the ocean, the surfing industry lags in eco-consciousness regarding its equipment. From synthetic resin surfboards to neoprene wetsuits and paraffin-based wax, these components, all derived from petroleum, pose significant recycling challenges.

WellingtonWax: An Ecological surfwax Made from Beeswax
In our journey, we aspire to meet ocean lovers with projects promoting more environmentally friendly practices. By a stroke of luck, we stumbled upon a beeswax-based Surf Wax project on Instagram, called Wellington Wax. During our stay in Wellington, we met Stan and Thomas one Saturday afternoon on the city’s heights.

To welcome us, 15-year-old Stan and Thomas invited us into their home, creating a warm and friendly atmosphere. From the first moments of our meeting, they shared their passion for surfing, guiding us through their world. We discovered their collection of ecologically designed surfboards, a result of their commitment to environmentally friendly practices.
Throughout the conversation, Stan and Thomas introduced us to their project, born just over a year ago: an ecological surf wax made from simple ingredients:
- New Zealand beeswax
- Coconut oil
- Pine resin from their garden
Despite their simplicity, these ingredients offer astonishing properties. A few days later, in Raglan, we had the opportunity to test their wax, which offers the same qualities as traditional wax, with the added bonus of a pleasant honey smell.

Now that the formulation is perfected, they are focusing on its commercialization. They have initiated approaches with local surf shops and are also using their Instagram account to sell their wax online.
You can contact them via Instagram.
The level of maturity and ecological commitment of these young entrepreneurs is remarkable. Through their project, they genuinely aim to change mentalities and practices within the surfing industry. We extend our encouragement to them for the continuous development of Wellington Wax, an initiative that embodies the promising future of eco-design in the world of sports and ocean preservation.
